Proton v5

AI in Proton

AI shows up all over Proton: an assistant that chats with you and acts in Proton on your behalf, failure diagnosis, period analyses, component documentation, and group creation. All of it depends on the AI module in the plan and uses AI credits.

What AI does in Proton

WhereWhat it does
Assistant (AI button in the header)Answers questions and acts in Proton on your behalf. See below.
Run details and failure drawerThe failure diagnosis: the cause, the evidence, and what to do.
AI analyses and HomeThe analysis of a period, with what to look at first, and the e-mail report.
ComponentUse Suggest with AI to get suggested documentation for the component.
Automation CenterUse Create with AI to build an automation group from a description.
ScheduleAsk the AI to schedule from a sentence.

The assistant

The AI button in the header opens the Proton Assistant on the right.

What it does

  • Looks things up: runs, failures, automations, datasets, runners, schedule, reports, processes.
  • Acts: creates and changes automations, components, datasets, and values, builds groups and cycles, runs and schedules.
  • Explains: answers how-to questions using this documentation.
  • Draws charts with the numbers it looked up.

The assistant uses the same tools as Proton MCP and acts with your permissions: it only sees and changes what you would see and change on screen. Before deleting, stopping, canceling, running, or starting a Cloud Runner, it asks for your confirmation in the conversation.

How to use it

  • Type your question, or start from a suggestion ("What can you do?", "Recent failures", "Available runners").
  • You can attach images (JPG, PNG, GIF, or WebP, up to 10 MB), such as a screenshot of an error.
  • New conversation starts from scratch; Conversation history shows the previous ones, with search, so you can rename or delete them.
  • Expand opens the assistant in a larger view, and you can drag the panel edge to change its width.

Privacy

  • The assistant only answers with data from the organization you are in.
  • Each person sees only their own conversations, which are stored in Proton.
  • An attached image is used only for the answer: it is not stored.

Limits

  • Long lists come back truncated: ask with a filter.
  • An action that takes a while to respond may have completed anyway: the assistant tells you to check on screen.

AI credits

Every use of AI consumes the organization's credits.

  • The plan includes a monthly allowance, which renews on the 1st of every month and does not roll over.
  • Atomic can add extra packs, which apply on top of the allowance (valid for 12 months by default). Usage draws from the month's allowance first and then from the packs, starting with the one that expires soonest.
  • When the organization reaches 80% and 100% of the month's credits, Proton warns the administrators on screen and by e-mail.
  • With no balance left, AI features do not run until the renewal or a new pack. To get more, talk to whoever manages Proton at your company.

How much each feature costs

FeatureDefault cost
Assistant1 credit per answer, plus 1 for every 3 lookups or actions in Proton
Failure diagnosis1 credit
AI analyses and Home analysis1 credit for every 31 days analyzed, counting only up to today
E-mail report1 credit per send
Create group with AI3 credits
Suggest a component's documentation1 credit

Each feature's button shows the cost before you use it. Opening a diagnosis or an analysis that was already generated costs no credits. When the AI service fails, the credit is refunded.

Proton MCP, where you use your own assistant (Claude, ChatGPT), does not consume Proton credits.

AI usage

In Financial > AI usage, whoever manages the plan tracks the credits:

  • Available, Used this month, Monthly allowance, and Extra packs (with their expiration);
  • usage By feature, By person, and By day;
  • the Latest calls, with who used AI, the feature, and the credits.

The month selector shows the last 6 months. The page requires permission to view licenses.
